If you’re a fan of Israeli television shows, you’ve probably seen or heard of When Heroes Fly, a drama-thriller series based on a book by Amir Gutfreund. The show is currently airing on Israel’s Keshet, as well as Netflix, and is filmed in Hebrew and Spanish. The show was quite successful and in July 2020, Apple TV+ announced that it has made a straight-to-series order for an English adaptation of the book, to be titled Echo 3.
Deadline reports that the show is “set in South America and follows Amber Chesborough, a brilliant young scientist, who is the emotional center of a small American family. When she goes missing along the Colombia-Venezuela border, her brother and her husband — two men with deep military experience and complicated pasts — struggle to find her in a layered, personal drama, set against the explosive backdrop of a secret war.”
Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker) signed on as showrunner and executive producer of the show, whose first season should contain 10 episodes. Alongside Boal, Peter Traugott, Jason Horwitch, Mark Sourian, Pablo Trapero, Omri Givon, Eitan Mansuri, Jonathan Doweck, Avi Nir (Keshet Media Group), Alon Shtruzman (Keshet International), and Karni Ziv (Keshet Broadcasting) have also signed on as producers.
As for the cast, famed actor, Luke Evans was first confirmed for the role of Bambi, Amber’s brother, and recently, news broke that Michiel Huisman also joined the show. Huisman will play Prince, a member of the “Echo 3” team and Amber’s husband. His previous roles include the series The Flight Attendant, where he starred alongside Kaley Cuoco, Game Of Thrones, and Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House. This is more than enough for us.
Echo 3 promises to be a thrilling new series for Apple TV+, whose roster is slowly expanding with more and more great shows. We currently don’t have a release window for this series, but we know we’re excited for more news, whenever they arrive.
