Ehang 184: Is It Really The World’s First Passenger Drone?

Drone technology still seems relatively limited in the purposes it can be put to, but a number of impressive drone products shown off at this month’s Consumer Electronics Show hinted at a very promising future. Could one of them even be the world’s first passenger drone?

We are referring here to the Ehang 184. Claimed by its Chinese manufacturer, Ehang, to be the world’s first autonomous helicopter drone, it is supposedly capable of taking a person as high as 500 meters into the air and flying them, all the while automatically avoiding obstacles, to a location pre-specified on Google Maps within the “unique application system” pictured below.

However, the company did not take the opportunity at CES to show the Ehang 184 in actual flight with a human on board. So, is this drone as capable as the company declares it to be? We look closer at the mystery surrounding the Ehang 184 in a major article in issue #220 of AppleMagazine. This issue has just been released, and is available by subscription through our free iOS app.
