Everything we know about the special edition (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 8 and 8 Plus so far

product-red

As predicted, Apple has announced a brand new (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, will be available to order in select countries and regions today! The phones will be in stores from Friday, April 13.

These phones are a new generation of iPhone using glass and aluminum design. They use the most durable glass in any smartphone as well as Retina HD display, A11 Bionic chop and seamlessly incorporate augmented reality. They also feature some of our more loved iPhone 8 features: the dual 12-megapixel camera, Portrait mode, wireless charging, and more!

Apple vows to support those living with HIV/AIDS

The phones will be available in both 64GB and 256GB at a starting price of $699, however, a portion of Apple’s sales are going directly to charity. They are using the new phones to help fund research for medication and possible cures for AIDs and HIV. Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of Product Marketing, and Deborah Dugan, (RED)’s CEO, elaborated in the press release:

“This special edition (PRODUCT)RED iPhone features a stunning red and black color combination and also offers customers the opportunity to make an impact in fighting the spread of HIV and AIDS,” Greg Joswiak

“Today’s announcement is further evidence of Apple’s leadership in and commitment to the AIDS fight since the beginning of (RED) in 2006…The more than $160 million Apple has donated in the last 11 years today equates to more than 800 million days of lifesaving ARV medication that prevents the transmission of HIV from mothers to their babies. We’re honoured that Apple has dedicated its resources to our purpose, and can’t wait to see customers bring our mission to life through the purchase of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition.” Deborah Dugan

Since partnering with (RED) in 2006, Apple has already donated more than $160 million to Global Fund.

Continuing traditions

Alongside, (PRODUCT)RED Apple is also releasing a new iPhone X Leather Folio, also available from today.

Apple kicked off PRODUCT(RED) with special edition versions of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus last year, and the product remained available until the release of the iPhone 8 and iPhone X in the fall.
