Repeating a giveaway from last year, Google is offering 2GB of free additional Google Drive space to users who agree to a quick security checkup on their account with the tech giant.
The checkup – or Google Security Check-up, to use its full, formal name – takes under a minute and enables Google to review various security settings, including the user’s two-step verification settings, information for account recovery, and which apps can access the account.
As The Verge explains, though Google was offering the same amount of extra Drive space in another promotion last year, even those who took advantage of the earlier offer can pick up another 2GB today.
Google is using this giveaway to mark Safer Internet Day 2016, which – yes – falls on this day, February 9, and intends to spread the word about how to use technology and smartphones more safely and securely. Google Drive users can claim their free additional storage by clicking here to head to Google Security Check-up and follow the instructions.
Google Drive apps are available for the desktop platforms of Windows and OS X and mobile systems Android and iOS, enabling ready use of the same documents across a range of devices.
