Facebook hits 2 billion users

Mark Zuckerberg announced Facebook has hit 2 million active users in a post this week.  Facebook, who also own photo sharing social media site Instagram, remains the biggest social network site in the world.

The CEO’s post read:

“As of this morning, the Facebook community is now officially 2 billion people!

We’re making progress connecting the world, and now let’s bring the world closer together.

It’s an honor to be on this journey with you.”

To celebrate their new milestone in bringing the world together, Facebook has began a Good Adds Up campaign and has stated it will create a personalized video for each user.

Just a few days before this announcement, Zuckerberg unveiled new features for the site, all aimed at helping communities grow.  The focus was on Facebook groups, aiming to make them more embedded into everyday use on Facebook.  They are aiming to make the groups suggested to you more meaningful and will make it easier than ever for admins to expand their group, in order to help communities to grow.  Expanding communities is exactly what Facebook aims to do, by bringing people together online.

Zuckerberg believes that by expanding communities, it will help the next generation tackle major world issues that have grown from national issues into international issues.
