Facebook Live Goes Full-Screen and Gets Video-Only Mode

Facebook is clearly aiming for more immersive experiences on its video streaming platform Facebook Live, with broadcasts now available in full-screen and with Reactions and comments tucked away.

While full-screen feeds can be enjoyed in both portrait and landscape orientations on iOS, they remain limited to portrait on Androidโ€ฆ for now. The social media site has told SocialTimes that landscape full-screen broadcasting will arrive on Googleโ€™s mobile platform later this summer.

Facebook also detailed the new video-only mode, which enables broadcasters and viewers to conceal Reactions and comments on a Facebook Live video by swiping right. Those Reactions and comments can then be brought back with a left swipe.

On top of all of that, the maximum length of streaming sessions through both the companyโ€™s main apps and the Facebook Live API has just been extended to four hours. Facebook might be facing tough competition from Twitter-owned Periscope in the live video space, but itโ€™s evidently holding its own.
