Comments uncovered in the code of the Facebook Messenger app for iPhone suggests that, at least for Apple handsets, the option of in-store purchasing could soon be added to the messaging service.
The Information discovered mention of this unreleased feature and others in “plain English distinct commands” within the code. The site reports that it unearthed the tantalizing reference in the process of extracting and viewing software files that form the current version of the iPhone app.
However, Facebook reportedly declined to comment on the discovery, and it remains unclear how in-store purchasing on the Messenger app would work. The in-app functionality of Apple Pay could make a great future inclusion in Messenger; in January, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg openly singled out Apple Pay as “a really neat innovation in the space that takes a lot of friction out of transactions”.
