Facebook Rolling Out Interactive Map of Live Video Feeds

Facebook has just become an even better place for watching live streaming video from around the world. The social media site has just introduced a Live Video web app, complete with an interactive map indicating the locations of numerous video feeds across the planet.

To bring up the map, you can just log into the Facebook website and click Live Video under the Apps section of the site’s sidebar. Alternatively, you can load up the web address www.facebook.com/livemap. The world map features various blue dots, each indicating the location of a live video feed. Move your cursor over a dot to see the video in thumbnail size.

You can then click on the dot to make that video much bigger – but, frankly, there’s such a huge choice of feeds that you might not even reach that stage. The map is accompanied by a left sidebar listing various live videos, though it is unclear what criteria is used for selection here.

It’s also unclear whether the map shows every single live video currently streaming globally; we are inclined to think not, given the relatively modest number of dots. The map is currently unavailable through the Facebook iOS app, though we’d expect that to soon change if its popularity takes off.
