Facebook Testing Saving of Videos to View Offline on Android

Re-viewing videos can be fun on Facebook, but less so if your cellular reception is spotty and you have to spend time re-downloading all of that hefty video data. Thankfully, in its Android app, Facebook appears to be testing a solution: the option to save videos for later viewing offline.

A reader of Android news site Android Police has reported noticing a new “Saved” video part of the app. Apparently, this new function allows users to, with a video that they have downloaded within the app, save it to their Facebook account – rather than their device’s onboard storage – for watching offline.

It’s possible that Facebook has restricted how videos can be saved in order to discourage copyright-infringing sharing of those videos on other sites – not to mention keep users within the Facebook app. The new “save” option is said to be in versions 85 and 86 (beta) of the Android app. However, Android Authority says that, in India, only “some users” can see the feature, which reportedly isn’t yet out of testing.
