Facebook is developing a dialer app for Android handsets. The app, which has been called Phone, will tackle nuisance calls by blocking unsolicited attempts to contact smartphone owners. The app could provide users with information about who is trying to contact them, even if they aren’t friends with them. It will do this by utilizing its database of 1.4 billion users. The app will apparently block calls from numbers that have been complained about regularly.
The company has declined to offer further details about the app’s features, saying: “We are always testing things and have nothing to announce at this time”. The release date has not yet been announced, and it’s not yet known whether the app will be made available for the iPhone.
The social media giant recently gave users more information about its stance on offensive content. Though none of its rules were changed, the new details were provided in an attempt to offer “clarity” to its subscribers. The new guidelines are almost three times longer than they were previously and outlined its policies on nudity and violence, hate speech and crime. However, users still haven’t been given the ability to stop potentially offensive videos from auto-playing.
Facebook has also announced plans to host news sites’ content.
