Facebook will unveil a standalone Oculus VR headset later this year, according to new reports from Bloomberg.
The social networking giant will enter the world of ‘wireless VR’, VR that does not require additional technology or devices beyond a VR headset, before the year’s out. ‘Wireless’ virtual reality has been a long-term goal at Facebook and Oculus, with Mark Zuckerberg openly discussing his ambitions for a mid-priced VR headset that could run as a standalone device.

According to reports, Facebook will sell the new wireless headset for around $200, which should allow the company to reach a larger captive audience.
Currently, the Oculus Rift is available at $399, so the new device could undercut the technology and make it more affordable for the masses.
In an exclusive interview with TechCrunch, Oculus said: “We don’t have a product to unveil at this time, however, we can confirm that we’re making several significant technology investments in the standalone VR category. This is in addition to our commit, ent to high-end VR products like Oculus Rift and mobile phone products like Gear VR.”
