Today, electric car maker Faraday Future announced that it is joining Formula E, a racing series reserved strictly for electric-powered vehicles. The California-based company has struck a technical partnership with Dragon Racing, one of the series teams, which will now be called Faraday Future Dragon Racing.
“Formula E has placed a significant emphasis on electric performance and connectivity, which makes it a great fit for Faraday Future,” enthused executive Marco Mattiacci. “Formula E has leveraged a community of fans and embodies the competitive spirit that we also share.”
Faraday Future Dragon Racing will make its competitive debut under its new name at the start of Formula E’s Season 3 for 2016/2017, at the Hong Kong ePrix on October 9, 2016. In November, the curious secrecy of Faraday Future led to speculation that it was in fact a “dummy” company for Apple’s own electric car development, but this theory was later scotched by a Fortune report.
