Final Fantasy Maker to Release New RPG for Apple Watch

The Apple Watch is about to get its first ever RPG – and what better company to provide it than Square Enix? On its website, the games giant behind the Final Fantasy series is now teasing the peculiar new RPG.

While that site provides little about the game other than that it is “coming soon”, the Japanese-language site Famitsu has picked up other details. Paraphrasing the report in English, Kotaku says that Cosmos Rings, as the RPG is called, will be exclusive to Apple’s wearable and released globally this summer.

Screenshots of the game shared by Gamer suggest a stripped-down experience that will take advantage of the Apple Watch’s unique accessibility. It is said that Cosmos Rings will use the device’s pedometer function – presumably to let players progress by physically walking, much like they can in Pokémon GO.

Cosmos Rings will be available in both the App Store and Watch App Store upon its arrival this summer. There’s no word on a release for Android Wear smartwatches, but we would be surprised not to see one should Cosmos Rings prove a hit on the Apple Watch.
