The first iPhone 8 dummy model has finally surfaced

We’ve had almost every rumor under the sun regarding design leaks and features of the new iPhone 8 but now a photo of the actual device has surfaced that sheds light on what could be the next update.

Previous leaks have shown not one but two dummy models of an iPhone, one made of aluminium and another with curved glass on both the front and back. The newest photos are swayed more toward the latter device, an iPhone made of glass and stainless steel with an edge-to-edge display on the front and no bezels. As far as the photos show, there is no Touch ID on the rear, implying that it will instead be integrated into the display.

These photos originated from Benjamin Geskin on Twitter and are apparently CNC dummies of the iPhone 8 although it’s unclear which stage of the production process they are from. One of the most noticeable differences is the vertical rectangle on the rear, presumably for the new dual camera system.

The photos do confirm many of the rumors we’ve already heard about the new device although as it stands, many have said that it remains underwhelming. Although the design certainly echoes the aesthetic of the iPhone 4, Geskin claims that the stainless steel frame will be polished black and sized the same as the iPhone 7 and have a lightning connector.

This diagram shows how Apple may place the selfie camera, speaker and sensors on the larger front screen and, as expected, the separate volume buttons and mute switch will remain on the side.

Geskin also provided a more detailed schematic of the device, showing the internal motherboard although he claims this is only 70% accurate.

Remember that this may be only one of the new iPhones undergoing production at the moment. A report from Bloomberg last week suggested that Apple are testing several prototypes, one with a dual rear camera. Although some are still divided regarding the design of the phone, rumors regarding its features seem certain with the device, due for release in autumn, expecting to feature a 3D sensing front camera, wireless charging, 3GB RAM and a 5.8 inch OLED display.
