The first footage of the upcoming Star Wars spin-off movie, formally titled Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, debuted on ABC’s Good Morning America earlier today. The footage, which has also been posted to the official Star Wars channel on YouTube, is tantalizing and prompts many questions…
The Theory of Everything star Felicity Jones features prominently as Jyn Erso. The character very much comes across as a Han Solo-style maverick, at one point quipping: “This is a rebellion, isn’t it? I rebel.” Other mysterious characters that feature include who evidently could be Grand Moff Tarkin, here portrayed by Ben Mendelsohn. Forest Whitaker also appears in armor as a probable mentor to Erso.
Lucasfilm clearly doesn’t want to give away too much about the plot so far ahead of the movie’s theatrical release. However, it is known that Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Alan Tudyk and Riz Ahmed are also among the cast. Meanwhile, Gareth Edwards, previously responsible for the cinematic successes Monsters and Godzilla, has taken the directorial reins.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is currently set to hit US theaters on December 16, 2016.
