The wearable tech giant FitBit is purchasing the technology that is used to power the Pebble brand of smart-watches
The products created by Pebble are not part of the deal, but the takeover now means that Pebble are putting more emphasis on bringing their expertise to FitBit products, instead of developing their own.
This will undoubtedly leave many of Pebbleās fan base very upset but could mean good things for FitBit, who had a troubled launch for their latest Blaze smart-watch.
Their Kickstarter campaign page reads, āWe donāt expect to release regular software updates or new Pebble features. Our new mission will focus on bringing Pebbleās unique wearables expertise to future Fitbit productsā.
This takeover has happened in the wake of 25% of the workforce being the laid off. Pebble have also stated that they are going to try and refund all the backers who donated to their Core, Time Round and Time 2 gadgets by March 2017.
