It looks like many people across the United States unwrapped Fitbit tracking devices among their Christmas presents yesterday, as the afternoon saw Fitbit top Appleās national chart of free iOS apps.
According to Quartz, which cited statistics from mobile analytics firm App Annie, the free Fitbit iOS app received this premier position having jumped 20 places in the chart since Christmas Eve. While this appās performance doesnāt provide a clear-cut picture of how well Fitbitās devices are selling, this significant surge in downloads could plausibly have been prompted by many people setting up new Fitbit trackers.
Fitbit has long tended to shift more units in the fourth quarter than any other; last year, this quarter saw sales of 5.28 million Fitbit devices, more than half of the total number sold right across 2014.
This app is available for both iPhone and iPad, as well as Android and Windows mobile devices. It comes with a wealth of features for recording health and fitness activity, including tracking all-day activity and logging food and calories ā though some features are reserved for newer devices.
