Apple TV+ has confirmed the renewal of its acclaimed series For All Mankind for a fifth season. The show, a sci-fi drama, presents an alternate history where the space race continued indefinitely and the Soviet Union triumphed over the United States in landing the first man on the moon.
In an exciting development, Apple TV+ is also collaborating with For All Mankind creators Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi on a new series, Star City.
This spinoff will delve deeper into the historical moment when the Soviet Union achieved this landmark space feat. The narrative will offer a glimpse behind the Iron Curtain, portraying the lives of the cosmonauts, engineers, and intelligence officers involved in the Soviet space program, along with the challenges they faced.
“Our fascination with the Soviet space program has grown with every season of For All Mankind,” stated Wolpert and Nedivi.
“The more we learned about this secret city in the forests outside Moscow where the Soviet cosmonauts and engineers worked and lived, the more we wanted to tell this story of the other side of the space race. We could not be more excited to continue building out the alternate history universe of For All Mankind with our partners at Apple and Sony.”
Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV+, expressed enthusiasm about the series’ expansion. “With each new season, For All Mankind continues to build out a fascinating world and capture global audiences through high quality storytelling that has been so skillfully developed by Ron, Matt and Ben,” he said.
“There is so much to explore, and we, along with our partners at Sony, can’t wait to dive into this next chapter of the engrossing For All Mankind universe.”
For All Mankind first premiered in 2019 and wrapped up its fourth season in January. The series features Joel Kinnaman, Wrenn Schmidt, Krys Marshall, Cynthy Wu, Coral Peña, and Edi Gathegi in leading roles.
