French actor Gaspard Ulliel, who is set to appear in the upcoming television miniseries Moon Knight for the Disney+ streaming service, has passed away at the age of 37.
The French news agency AFP reported that according to his family in a press release sent by his agent, the Paris-born actor had been the victim of a skiing accident. It was reported that on Tuesday, he had collided with another skier in the Savoie region of the Alps, and was subsequently airlifted to a Grenoble hospital, where he died the next day.
Moon Knight, a six-episode series in which Ulliel will appear as villain Anton Mogart aka Midnight Man, is set to premiere Wednesday, March 30. The series, named after the Marvel Comics character on which it is based, had completed its filming in Budapest as of early October, with production wrapping by the middle of that month.
The release date was revealed alongside a brand new trailer for the series during the recent Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams Wild Card game. The trailer is set to Kid Cudi’s “Day ‘N’ Nite”, and shows Oscar Isaac as Marc Spector, and Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow. As the trailer continues, Spector is shown “embracing the chaos” and becoming the titular Moon Knight.
Ulliel was born on November 25, 1984. His career highlights included portraying the young Hannibal Lecter in 2007’s Hannibal Rising, and fashion mogul Yves Saint Laurent in the Saint Laurent biopic in 2014. He also earned multiple awards and nominations for his performance in the 2016 drama film It’s Only the End of the World.
Ulliel is survived by his girlfriend Gaëlle Piétri, and six-year-old son Orso.
