Remember Aziraphale and Crowley, the angel and demon that made us fall in love with Neil Gaiman’s Good Omens two years ago? Michael Sheen and David Tennant did a magnificent job portraying the main characters of Good Omens, a show that was an absolute hit for Amazon Prime, winning several awards along the way. Speculations of a second season began soon after the series’ end but it wasn’t until June 29, 2021 that we got an official confirmation of a second season of the show, with Sheen and Tennant returning to reprise their roles.
Amazon Prime, the primary distributor of the series, summarized the show’s first season as follows: “The End of the World is coming, which means a fussy Angel and a loose-living Demon who’ve become overly fond of life on Earth are forced to form an unlikely alliance to stop Armageddon. But they have lost the Antichrist, an 11-year-old boy unaware he’s meant to bring upon the end of days, forcing them to embark on an adventure to find him and save the world before it’s too late.”
Good Omens initially covered the whole book that Gaiman co-wrote with Terry Pratchett and the possibility of a second season was quickly shot down by Gaiman. Still, it seems that Gaiman changed his mind, considering that there was a plan for a second book, which ended up not being published due to Pratchett’s death in 2015. Gaiman had this to say about the idea: “Terry’s not here any longer, but when he was, we had talked about what we wanted to do with Good Omens, and where the story went next. And now, thanks to BBC Studios and Amazon, I get to take it there.”
It seems that Gaiman really does have some ideas for a new story and we have no doubt that Good Omens is going to be one of the most anticipated shows in the near future, seeing how the two charismatic main actors are returning, along with Gaiman’s creative genius.
