Web giant Google and space agency NASA will soon be able to benefit from even further advanced quantum computing systems, following a new deal with D-Wave Systems.
The terms of the deal stipulate that the Canadian company D-Wave Systems will install quantum computing systems at NASA’s Ames Research Center in California’s Silicon Valley. Fortune reports that Google, NASA and the Universities Space Research Association hope that the systems could help them to advance in areas like artificial intelligence.
Google is also reportedly using quantum computing research to boost its search and speech recognition capabilities, while NASA is seeking help for mission-control support and unmanned space missions. Such research could result in more complex problem-solving for better system optimization.
In a press release, D-Wave explains that the new deal “enables Google and its partners to keep their D-Wave system at the state-of-the-art for up to seven years, with new generations of D-Wave systems to be installed at NASA Ames as they become available.”
