Google has said it will stop allowing consumers access to unlimited free photo storage via its Google Photos service from June 2021, with users now having to pay for their space.
The company launched the Photos service back in 2015 and offered free unlimited storage of photographs in high quality. As of June 1 2021, photos will now count towards your Google Storage limit of 15GB, though previously-uploaded photos won’t count as part of this.
The search engine giant says that it’s making the change to offer users the ability to upload higher-quality photos and experiences, and added that only photos added from June 2021 will count towards the 15G limit. After that, users can pay for additional storage space from as little as $1.99, with pricing on par with Apple’s iCloud service.
Starting June 1, 2021, new photos and videos uploaded in High quality will begin counting towards your 15GB of Google Account storage.
