Google Credits Mobile Search with Upping Advertising Revenue

Google saw an 11% rise in revenue during 2015’s second quarter, and the search giant has attributed much of this growth to mobile search.

The business’s revenues in the quarter reached a total of $17.7 billion, compared to $16 billion in the equivalent quarter of 2014. Advertising was responsible for $16 billion of the 2015 figure, $8 billion of which was amassed in the US.

Google’s CFO, Ruth Porat, commented that her company’s “strong Q2 results reflect continued growth across the breadth of our products, most notably core search, where mobile stood out, as well as YouTube and programmatic advertising”.

However, TechWeekEurope has reported concern among shareholders about Google’s growing reliance on mobile advertising, as the company charges less for mobile advertisements than for desktop promotion. There is also the issue that smartphone and tablet users have a smaller tendancy to click on sponsored links.

In an apparent attempt to discourage shareholder discontent, Porat has declared that Google’s staff “are focused every day on developing big new opportunities across a wide range of businesses”, and “will do so with great care regarding resource allocation.”
