Google has decided to make Google Earth Pro free, removing its $399 price tag. The Pro version of Google Earth gives users access to a series of extra tools, allowing them to record HD movies, print hi-res images, measure 3D buildings and take advantages of various other features.
Users wishing to take advantage of Google Earth Pro simply need to sign up for a free licence key, though their computers will need to meet minimum requirements. Owners of machines using Windows XP and higher with at least 500MB of free storage and 512MB of RAM will be able to use to service. Mac owners will need OS 10.6 or higher, at least 500MB of free storage and 512MB of RAM.
Google Earth Pro has been available for 10 years. Existing users of the service don’t need to do anything, as their keys will still work. Google Earth reached 1 billion users in 2011. The company is yet to announce whether users who have recently paid almost $400 for the software will be given a refund.
