Google Testing New “Foodie Photos” Feature for Google Maps

Imagine visiting a café or restaurant, taking a photo of some succulent food there and then posting that photo to the eatery’s location on Google Maps for others to see. That could soon be very much a reality for you – and, for some people, already is – as Google is currently testing a new food photography feature.

Apparently informed by anonymous sources, Android Police has learned that Google Local Guides – top reviewers registered with the tech company – at “level 3 and above” are the first to get opportunities to sample this new feature. It seemingly triggers by alerting Google Maps mobile app users that it has detected, on the device, a photo recently taken at a food-related place.

It is further reported that Local Guides have been emailed this link on the support section of Google’s website. This page refers to “notifications [that] show up after you’ve taken a photo in public places that Google thinks are interesting to other people, like restaurants and bars.” This is likely including reference to what Android Police has called the “foodie photos” feature.
