Google Updates Gmail App for Android with Useful New Features

Google’s Gmail app for Android devices is much appreciated by many smartphone and tablet users; it enables users to be quickly notified as new emails arrive, even through non-Gmail accounts, and read and reply to email conversations even offline. Many of the app’s fans are therefore likely to appreciate that Google is, this week, rolling out a number of enhancements to make the experience even better.

According to a postĀ recently added by Google to its own social networking website, Google+, the improvements being enacted following feedback include more reliable support for non-Gmail addresses and “a smoother experience” for adding accounts to the app. Another new feature is the ability to tap on avatars to “see recent conversations, contact info, and more”.

The Gmail app can be downloaded through Google Play, where it has gained an impressive user rating of 4.3 out of 5 from more than 1.8 million ratings. Comments replying to the Google+ announcement have been largely positive, though some commenters have unsurprisingly used the opportunity to specify new features they want to see included in a future update to the app.
