Got a New iOS Device? How to Transfer Data From Your Old One

It’s the fall, and for many Apple fans, that’s upgrade time! More exciting still, when you buy a new iOS device, it’s so easy to transfer data from your old one, leaving you to quickly continue where you left off while enjoying enhanced speed and new features. Here’s how the process can work.

First, after loading up the latest version of iTunes on your desktop computer, backup your old iOS device by selecting it within iTunes before clicking File, Devices and then Transfer Purchases. This will save content you have downloaded from the iTunes Store or App Store.

Now, turn on your new device for the first time to bring up the “Hello” screen. After swiping left to right here and following steps until you reach the Wi-Fi screen, connect the device with the computer that has your iTunes backup. On the iOS device, tap Connect to iTunes, follow several more steps and, at the Apps & Data screen, proceed with Restore from iTunes Backup.

Enter your Apple ID and password, choose your backup and, finally, wait for the transfer process to complete. Apple offers more detailed instructions if you get stuck.
