Great Reasons to Watch the TV Series Marvel’s Agent Carter

Peggy Carter may no longer be a major part of the Captain America cinematic franchise, but she’s still very much kicking rear, albeit on a much smaller screen, thanks to the TV series Marvel’s Agent Carter. And, if you haven’t yet caught it, there’s plenty of reason to do so – you can even watch Brit actress Hayley Atwell reprise the role on your Apple device…

Feel the Cold War paranoia…

Marvel’s Agent Carter feels almost like a comic book adaptation for people who don’t like comic book adaptations. Certainly, enthusiasts of that very British and historically-grounded style of storytelling, typified by the likes of James Bond and Downton Abbey, could easily take to the series, which effectively captures the atmosphere and style of the 1940s.

We’re not just talking about the fashion – though we can certainly see many female viewers eagerly adding the heroine’s glamourous, Old Hollywood-style eyewear and other get-up to their wardrobes. We’re also talking about the “female James Bond” central character – who, like Bond and Atwell herself, is British – and capturing of the increasingly tense and icy atmosphere of the Cold War.

Vintage adventures available on a range of Apple devices

The show’s first eight-episode season aired on ABC last year – and, in the United States, you can watch this season through the WATCH ABC app available for iOS devices, Mac and Apple TV. Alternatively, you can buy either the full season or individual episodes from the iTunes Store. However you watch the show, you can enjoy following Peggy Carter as she juggles life as a secret agent with her more humdrum escapades as a single woman in 1940s America.

The second season, which started screening on ABC in January, continues in a similar vein. You can enjoy a sample of that season with the below preview trailer put out by Marvel before the episodes got their debut broadcasting. Full episodes of that season, too, can be streamed or bought through Apple devices – though, of course, you can’t watch episodes that haven’t yet aired on the main ABC channel.

Not that you’re likely to mind if you haven’t yet caught up with the older episodes. There’s plenty for you to get stuck into with those, and we won’t spoil the surprise by going into further detail about what Carter encounters. Oh, and don’t forget that there’s a new episode showing on ABC at 9/8c on Tuesday…
