British-born actress Hayley Atwell has expressed enthusiasm for returning to her best-known role as Captain America’s love interest Peggy Carter, despite the recent cancellation of TV series Agent Carter.
That series was, as learned by The Hollywood Reporter in May, dropped by ABC following two seasons which attracted critical plaudits but much poorer ratings than the companion Marvel drama Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which has remained part of ABC’s schedule for its 2016-17 season.
Nonetheless, in an interview published today, the 34-year-old Atwell told Entertainment Weekly: “I love Peggy. I would go back to Peggy in a heartbeat.” She added: “My Marvel family have committed to giving her a life if she can and wherever it can happen in the future. I’m open to that.”
Whether or not it does happen, Atwell takes the lead role in the new legal procedural drama series Conviction, which will premiere on ABC tonight at 10pm Eastern Time.
