If you’re having trouble getting your MacBook to charge, you can try a few things to fix the issue.
First, check the power outlet you’re using to make sure it’s working correctly. You can do this by plugging in a lamp or an AC-powered clock. If the outlet is working, move on to checking the AC power cord that came with your MacBook charger.
Make sure it’s not damaged and is plugged in firmly to both the wall outlet and the charger itself.
Next, inspect the charger’s output cable (also known as the DC cable) for any fraying or tears. If you see any damage, you may need to replace the charger or try using a different one. If you’re using a USB-C charger, also make sure the USB-C cable is fully inserted into the charger. Sometimes, simply wiggling the cable can fix the issue. Just be careful not to bend the plugs at the ends of the cable, as they can become damaged quickly.
If your charger becomes warm during use, it may turn itself off if placed in a poorly ventilated area. In that case, unplug the charger and let it cool down before using it again.
Another potential issue is AC line noise, which can interfere with the charger. This can be caused by things like power tools, fluorescent lights, and refrigerators. If the charger shuts off due to line noise, try unplugging it for a minute or two before plugging it back in, or try using a different circuit or an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to filter out the noise.
It’s also important to use the correct charger for your MacBook model. Apple has several different types of chargers, including MagSafe 1 and 2 chargers (45W, 60W, and 85W) and USB-C chargers (30W, 35W, 61W, 67W, 87W, 96W, and 140W). The MagSafe 3 chargers come in 67W, 96W, and 140W. Be sure to use the correct wattage for your MacBook, as using a lower-wattage charger with a high-power consumption MacBook may not provide enough power to charge the battery. You can check Apple’s website to find your MacBook’s original adaptor.
If you’ve tried all of these steps and your MacBook still isn’t charging, you may need a new charger. Keep in mind that you can use a high-wattage charger instead of a lower-wattage one, but not the other way around. If you’re using a third-party charger, ensure it’s compatible with your MacBook and meets all safety standards.
