iPhone

iOS 16.1 is live, and we've put together some of the new features you can expect.

If you want to upgrade to the new operating system, head to the Settings app on your smartphone, choose General, and then Software Update. If you don't see iOS 16.1 as an option, the chances are that it's still rolling out in your market.

One of the biggest new updates is iCloud Shared Photo Library, which allows you to share photos and videos with up to five other people. The update allows users to setup rules allow you to easily contribute past photos based on start date or people in the photos when you set up or join a library, and sharing toggle in the Camera app allows you choose to send photos you take straight to the Shared Library, or enable a setting to share automatically when other participants are detected nearby using Bluetooth.

Live Activities is another new tool coming to iOS 16.1, with third-party apps able to take advantage of the Dynamic Island and Lock Screen on iPhone 14 Pro.

For the first time, Apple Fitness+ is now supported on iPhone even if you don't have an Apple Watch, and in the Wallet app, you can share car keys, hotel room keys, and more inside of WhatsApp and iMessage. The update also brings support for Matter in the Home app, whilst Clean Energy Charging allows users to selectively charge their iPhones when lower carbon emission electricity is available.
