How iPhones and iPads Have Helped Improve Redlands Policing

The sheer diversity of uses that iPhones and iPads can be put to barely requires clarification – but can they really serve as effective tools in law enforcement? Redlands Police Department has declared so – and even enthused to Apple about exactly how these devices have assisted them.

A few years ago, this police division serving the California city of Redlands got its own feature on the Apple website, in which the department’s then Chief of Police, Jim Bueermann, remarked that each of his officers had an iPhone clearly displayed on their belt.

Lieutenant Chris Catren added: “I think iPad has the potential to be adopted on a mass scale in law enforcement because of its portability, its ease of use and its instantly ‘on’ technology.”

Apple still shows the feature, while Redlands Police Department continues to heavily draw upon iOS technology, as it makes clear on its own website. The cover article in the current issue of AppleMagazine further explains how iOS devices have helped in making communities safer.
