Apple now offers three Apple Watch designs: the SE 2 (Gen 2), Series 8, and Ultra. Apple is considered one of the best smartwatch bands and rightfully so! If you have an earlier Apple Watch and are considering upgrading, we’ll highlight the significant differences among all the Apple Watch versions that are still capable of operating with the updated watchOS.

Apart from the all-new Ultra, every Apple Watch launched in the last half a decade has been broadly identical. Choosing between the many versions of Apple Watch bands will ultimately depend on the modern design, certain exclusive wellness benefits, and your budget.

Apple Watch Series 8 (2022)

Series 8 is relatively similar to Series 7 from the previous year. It has the same appearance, the same display, the same battery life, and the same price. Aside from a newer and quicker processor, the most significant difference is that the Series 8 comes with a few more health and safety measures.

It features a unique body temperature gauge that is specifically developed to assist women in tracking their menstrual cycles. It also has a new car crash detector powered by enhanced sensors, notably accelerometers and gyroscopes.

Should you purchase it? The answer is “yes” if you want the ideal Apple Watch for most users. However, if you own a Series 7, you likely won’t notice any big difference between the Series 7 and Series 8.

Apple Watch Ultra (2022)

The Ultra is a whole new Apple Watch for 2022. It stands to be the best and most costly Apple Watch ever released. It’s a smartwatch created primarily for extreme sports and adventures, including amateur scuba diving. Still, it’s also a choice for anyone looking for Apple’s best smartwatch if they require a large (49mm) display.

Should you purchase it? The Ultra is Apple’s most advanced and largest smartwatch. It’s also one of the most expensive. Therefore, you should first determine if you need the additional capabilities; otherwise, the Series 8 may be the better option.

Apple Watch SE (2022)

The second-generation Apple Watch SE closely resembles its predecessor which was unveiled in 2020. It has the same appearance and feel and many of the same functionalities. Aside from a better CPU and new color options, the key distinction with the new Apple Watch SE is that Apple reduced the price. It is currently priced at $249.

In terms of compromises made compared to the Series 8, the new SE is still missing the always-on display and some health and wellness functions. For example, there is no cycle or sleep tracking.

Should you purchase it? Yes. It’s an excellent entry-level wristwatch and the best bargain Apple Watch available.

Apple Watch Series 7 (2021)

The Series 7 is notable for its fresh appearance. It boasts a 20% larger always-on display, thinner bezels, and more rounded corners than the Series 6.

The Series 7 boasts a more durable build (IP6X rated) and faster charging (33% faster). The Series 7 includes all the same sensors and capabilities as the Series 6.

Should you buy it? Unless you find an excellent deal. The Series 8 costs almost the same as the Series 7 and is better in every way.
