Apple’s new Mac software, Mavericks OS X, which comes full of features including new Maps and iBooks apps, was made available for download Tuesday.
If you already have the Mountain Lion operating system on your computer, then your device is capable of running Mavericks OS X. If you don’t and aren’t sure if you can upgrade, here’s a helpful guide.
iMac
Apple said iMacs bought as far back as mid-2007 will be able to upgrade to the new operating system.
MacBook
You’ll be able to upgrade to Mavericks OS X if you own the late 2008 aluminum model or an early 2009 version or newer.
Apple said models from mid-/late 2007 or newer can upgrade to the latest software.
MacBook Air
Nearly every version of the MacBook Air can upgrade to Mavericks OS X. Apple says models from late 2008 or newer are eligible.
Mac mini
If you have a Mac mini, you can upgrade to Mavericks OS X if it is an early 2009 model or newer.
Apple’s heavy-duty desktop can be upgraded to the latest software if it is the early 2008 model or newer.
Xserve
Apple said it is also supporting a Mavericks OS X upgrade for its server product from early 2009.
