Last week, Apple made its Swift programming language open source – meaning that a much broader range of developers can now help to make it even better. So, it’s time for us to look closer at how you – yes, you – in particular could benefit from this move.
Maybe we should allow Apple to provide some of the explanation? The company’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, has clarified that, now, “the entire developer community can contribute to the programming language and help bring it to even more platforms”, adding: “Swift’s power and ease of use will inspire a new generation to get into coding, and … they’ll be able to take their ideas anywhere, from mobile devices to the cloud.”
