HSBC Seemingly Confirms Tuesday Launch for Apple Pay in UK

There has already been abundant evidence that tomorrow will see the official launch of the mobile payments system Apple Pay in the UK – and now HSBC seems to have confirmed it. We say “seems to” because the banking organization has used Twitter to cite 14 July for the launch before deleting the tweet.

In response to another Twitter user asking whether the launch can be expected within the next week, the Twitter account at @HSBC_UK excitedly replied: “Yes! It’s due to launch this Tuesday!” There was later, however, an unexpected turnaround when that tweet was deleted – and, through a separate account at @HSBC_UK_Help, HSBC said: “We are launching Apple Pay this month but have no set launch date at the moment.”

Despite being challenged about the deletion of the original tweet, which can still be seen in a screenshot posted by 9to5Mac, HSBC does not seem to have used either of these Twitter accounts to re-confirm the 14 July date. However, with so much other evidence that tomorrow will indeed be the big day, we are willing to consider this date, well, all-but-confirmed.
