The Chinese tech giant Huawei today unveiled its first 2-in-1 tablet, the MateBook. Entering a growing market field that already includes the iPad Pro and Surface Pro 4, the MateBook supports a detachable keyword and has a 12-inch display and 5-megapixel camera while running Windows 10.
The device, which has the color choice of champagne white and dark silver, also comes with 512GB of storage and a fingerprint sensor. Huawei has also launched an accessories kit allowing the MateBook to be used with a stylus and, through an adaptor, USB-compatible accessories.
Huawei, which unveiled the MateBook at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona earlier today, has not revealed details about the slate’s pricing or availability. Indeed, it is unclear whether the MateBook will get a release in the United States, where Huawei currently does not sell its consumer devices.
In any case, it seems a good time for the company to enter the detachable tablet market. CNBC reports IDC’s findings that, while 2015’s fourth quarter saw tablet sales decline by 13.7% year-on-year, 2-in-1 tablet shipments reached 8.1 million, more than double their number in 2014’s corresponding quarter.
