For those that don’t know what Humble Bundle is here’s a quick explanation. It is a curated bundle of games sent directly to your inbox every month that sends 5% of its proceeds to a charity of your choice and the rest to the games developers.
The online games store is known for its regular, usually themed, charity bundles where subscribers are able to pay the amount they want for a selection of comics, books or games. It’s newest offering is the Humble Freedom Bundle which pledges 100% of its proceedings to humanitarian charities. Donations for this bundle start at $30 and for that, buyers will unlock 47 games, some of which are considered the biggest indie games in recent years. Games and books in this bundle are set to be worth up to $600 and include farming simulator Stardew Valley, spy-theme strategy game Invisible Inc, arcade game Superhexagon, indie classic Octodad and even The Witness, which when purchased individually is $39.99 making this bundle well worth it.
This release comes as a response to President Trump’s recent attempt at an immigration ban. All donations from this bundle will go to charities including Doctors Without Borders, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). The Bundle’s page states that the company supports liberty and immigrant’s rights in the U.S with Humble stating that these charities were chosen “because of the inspiring work they do in providing humanitarian assistance to refugees and displaced people as well as in defense of justice, human rights, and civil rights.” Humble are also due to match donations up to their initial goal of $300,000 but at present, this bundle has managed to raise over $1 million.
