DC Comics has a large roster of animated movies, which started with The Mask of Phantasm, which was officially part of the Batman: The Animated Series universe. Now, the DC Animated Universe (DCAU) has gone through a revamp only recently, and is continuing in its second iteration, similar to how comic book revamps work. Now, a new continuity of DCAU movies is being established but the tradition of releasing standalone movies set in an alternative narrative to the main DCAU world was kept and the result of that is the long-awaited animated adaptation of the successful Injustice video game.
Injustice is going to be released on home media and online on October 19, 2021, and Warner Bros. has released a new clip ahead of the movie’s release next week.
In it, we see the Justice League of the Injustice universe being divided into two fractions – Team Superman and Team Batman. Injustice is based on the commercially successful fighting video game which sees Superman become the villain of an alternative Earth, which he rules as a dictator; all of this happened because he was tricked by the Joker to kill Lois Lane, which made him go insane and become a tyrant.
The official synopsis gives us these information: “It takes place in a world in which the Joker kills Lois Lane, enraging Superman and causing him to abandon his values. After murdering the Joker, the Man of Steel gathers an army of Earth’s heroes and creates a global police state in the name of peace. In response, Batman assembles his own team and tries to take back the planet from paranoid Kryptonian.”
The movie stars Laura Bailey as Lois Lane and Rama Kushna, Zach Callison as Damian Wayne and Jimmy Olsen, Brian T. Delaney as Green Lantern, Justin Hartley as Superman, Edwin Hodge as Mr. Terrific and Killer Croc, Oliver Hudson as Plastic Man, Gillian Jacobs as Harley Quinn, Yuri Lowenthal as Mirror Master, Brandon Michael Hall as Cyborg, Flash and Shazam, Anson Mount as Batman, Derek Phillips as Nightwing and Aquaman, Kevin Pollack as the Joker and Janet Varney as Wonder Woman.
Injustice will be available in digital HD and Blu-ray/4K UHD on October 19, 2021.
