Instagram Testing Ads That Use 3D Touch and Apple Pay

If you’re regularly tempted by ads on the iPhone app of photo-sharing platform Instagram, reportedly in testing are ads that could enable you to purchase advertised products without leaving the app.

According to Digiday, products ranging from clothes to restaurant menu items could soon be bought within the app through use of iOS technologies like 3D Touch and Apple Pay. The former would apparently make it possible for app users to toggle through different options for the same product – different sizes of the same piece of clothing, for example – before going ahead with the purchase.

The integration of Apple Pay would then allow users to complete the financial transaction of a purchase without having to switch to the brand’s own app or Safari. Though these functions would obviously be limited to more recent iOS devices with 3D Touch and Apple Pay support, they show how developers are already thinking carefully about how to make good use of Apple-exclusive features.
