It’s been long-awaited, but the newest Instagram feature is finally here in the style of “quote tweeting”. Thanks to the new ‘see post’ tab, users can now share the public posts of others with their own captions.
It seems as though this feature has rolled out to some users early, although Instagram did not immediately return a request for comment. Users who already have the feature can tap on the ‘see post’ button which will allow them to embed that particular post in their own Instagram Story. Of course, this gives credit to the original poster and reduces the amount of stolen content on the platform. Those who don’t want their posts shared in this way will have the option to turn it off.
This is the company’s first venture into a ‘share’ button and up until now, Instagram users have only been able to share posts through third-party apps such as Regram and Repost. At present, the company has not announced plans to release the new feature beyond the current testing market.
It’s likely that this feature will push Instagram’s appeal even further, creating more sharing options that will place it at an advantage over the likes of Snapchat, a platform that continues to be it’s largest competitor.
