Apple has just released iOS 10.1 to the public, allowing all iPhone 7 Plus owners to now enjoy the sophisticated Portrait camera mode that was demoed at the device’s launch event in September.
The Portrait feature lets users utilize the dual-lens camera of the iPhone 7 Plus to take photos with a shallow depth of field effect similar to what can be achieved with an advanced DSLR camera. This means that people, pets and objects can be captured both in crisp detail and to blurred backgrounds.
To all compatible devices, iOS 10.1 also brings Transit directions for Japan and many bug fixes and other under-the-hood enhancements. Improvements to the Messages app include the option of playing bubble and full screen effects with Reduce Motion enabled; it’s also now possible to replay these effects.
iOS 10.1 is now available to freely download on all devices capable of running iOS 10. You can start the download either through Software Update in a supported device’s Settings app or via the iTunes desktop software when the iOS device is connected to a Mac or Windows PC.
