Apple’s iOS 13 is installed on three-quarters of all iPhones launched in the past four years.
According to new adoption figures on the App Store support site, 77% of all iPhones that were released in the past four years now use iOS 13, and 70% of all iOS devices in total.
17% of iPhone owners with a device launched in the past four years still run on iOS 12 and 6% run an operating system older than that, such as iOS 11 or iOS 10.
Remember that iOS 13 was only launched in September 2019, and so some users will be unaware of the update or prefer to hold onto their older operating system for compatibility reasons with older apps.
It’s a similar story on iPad, with 79% of all iPad devices that launched in the past four years now running iPadOS, a fork from iOS offering advanced tablet-exclusive functionality.
19% of users are still running iOS 12 on their iPads, and 2% run an older version of iOS.
Overall, just 57% of iPads run iPadOS 13, though it’s important to note that Apple had strict rules on which iPads could upgrade to the new operating system.
27% of all iPads still run on iOS 12, and 16% run on older iPads, suggesting there are more older iPads still in use.
Apple previously shared figures on iOS installation in October. Then, 55% of devices ran iOS 13, showing adoption of the operating system has increased significantly in the past three months.
