Meanwhile,iOS 14 tracking changes leave some advertisers unhappy.

Apple has confirmed that 72% of all iOS devices are now running iOS 14, with 81% of devices sold within the past four years running the latest version of the operating system.

This places iOS 14 ahead of iOS 13 in terms of adoption rates, demonstrating the growth of software upgrades on iOS and the power of this year’s release, which saw a number of new features such as a home screen redesign and an App Gallery to manage and organize apps.

The company issued the data to developers, revealing the latest install rates of its operating system on iPhones and iPads. Right now, 72% of all iPhones are running on iOS 14, with 18% on iOS 13 and 10% running an earlier version. That data makes it easier for developers to choose between supporting older versions of its operating system or killing support.

Over on iPad, Apple has confirmed that 61% of consumers are running iPadOS 14 or above, with 21% running iPadOS 13. That means 18% are using an older version – iOS 12 was the last major version of the operating system to support iPad before a dedicated iPad fork was announced alongside iPadOS 13.

Despite this, iPadOS 14 adoption appears to be higher than last year’s iPadOS 13.
