iOS 16 allows users to remove more stock apps, like Health, Camera, and more

iPhone

As of iOS 16, users will be able to uninstall even more default Apple apps.

The company has likely made the move on the new operating system to counteract concerns from anti-trust regulators and means that consumers now have more choice when deciding which apps they want on their phones.

The latest iOS 16 beta has been released, and now a record 30 Apple-owned apps can be removed from the iPhone and iPad. Although this may change ahead of the full release of iOS 16 this September, it’s likely that Apple is testing allowing users to remove default apps to give them more choice and allow third-party apps to thrive.

Right now, users can uninstall Books, Calculator, Calendar, Compass, Contacts, FaceTime, Files, Fitness, Home, iTunes Store, Mail, Maps, Measure, Music, News, Notes, Podcasts, Reminders, Shortcuts, Stocks, Tips, Translate, TV, Voice Memos, Watch, and Weather.

As of iOS 16, the Camera, Clock, Find My, and Health apps can also be uninstalled from iPhones.

It’s important to note that removing an app from the iPhone doesn’t necessarily mean the functionality has been removed, and for an app like Camera, it’s likely that the software will simply be hidden rather than removed in its entirety.
