Attempting to update software, only to find that there is insufficient free storage space to do so, is familiar to many iOS users. A new feature added in iOS 9 and discovered by users yesterday seems intended to make this frustrating occurrence a thing of the past.
Users of the first beta version of iOS 9 came across this useful new feature when they attempted to upgrade to the second beta version yesterday. Young Canadian iOS developer Kaleb Butt tweeted a screenshot of the message that pops up when there is insufficient storage space for a software update. The message asks if the user would like apps to be deleted to free up the necessary space, but reassures them that the apps will be replaced following the update.
9TO5Mac has said that this new feature is intended to accompany another iOS 9 enhancement allowing Apple to release software updates needing less free space than usual. Making updates easier for iOS users seems to have been a particularly strong priority for Apple this year.
