iOS 9 Code Suggests Improvements for iPhone Front Camera

The next line of iPhones are likely to come with several major improvements and new features for the front camera, judging from evidence unearthed by developer Hamza Sood. The developer has pointed out, in a recent tweet, that code for the just-unveiled iOS 9 mentions support for 1080p and 240fps video capture and a flash for this camera.

A resolution of 1080p would certainly be a considerable improvement on the 720p resolution of the camera on the current iPhone 6 models. Meanwhile, a flash for the front camera would be a first in any iPhone! This code strongly suggests that, with the next iPhone models that are presumably set for launch in the fall, it will be possible to use the camera for shooting 240fps video at 720p, and even taking panoramic selfie photos.

Many of these features are actually already available in the back cameras of the latest iPhone models, but the increased popularity of selfies in recent times makes improvements to the front camera seem very sensible. Last month, we also reported evidence that the next iPhones will see the rear camera bumped up in megapixels from 8 to 12. All of these improvements look likely for the cameras of new iPads in the near future, too.
