iOS features we’re expecting to see in 2022

iPhone on charge

Last week, Apple released betas of macOS 12.3 and iPadOS 15.4, which testers were pleasantly surprised to find included Universal Control. Universal Control allows users to use their iPad as an external display for a Mac. With that in mind, here are a few more iOS features we’re expecting Apple to launch during 2022.

In September 2021, Apple announced that it was planning to allow users to add their driver’s license or state ID to the Wallet app on their iPhone and Apple Watch, with Arizona and Georgia set to be among the first states supporting the feature. Although Apple is yet to beta this feature, residents of select US states can expect to be able to use it from “early 2022”, according to the Cupertino firm’s webpage for iOS 15.

Apple Music subscribers, meanwhile, can look forward to a dedicated classical music app later this year. After purchasing Primephonic in August 2021, Apple announced its intention to integrate some of the features into Apple Music, and it seems we can expect this by the back end of this year.

There is also talk about introducing a feature to the iPhone that would allow users to use their device as a payment terminal, without the need for additional hardware such as Square Reader. Initially this was rumored to be an iOS 15 feature, but it seems likely to be announced as part of iOS 16 at the Worldwide Developers’ Conference (WWDC) in June.
