Though Apple announced the immediately available iPad Mini 4 alongside the more publicized iPad Pro on Wednesday, many new details about the smaller slate’s specs and performance have been revealed following thorough testing.
That testing has been carried out by Ars Technica, which reports that the tablet’s A8 chip clocks in at 1.5GHz – slightly speedier than the A8 processor of last year’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The site has observed that, for speed, there is “a 20-or-so percent improvement over the old Mini 2 and Mini 3”.
It has also been found that the iPad Mini 4 has 2GB of RAM, by Apple senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller’s description of the tablet as a smaller iPad Air 2. This RAM, which is double that of the previous two iPad Mini models, should allow for smooth use of the new Split View multitasking feature, pictured in action above.
