iPhone 11 Pro offers faster 4G LTE in new benchmarks

A crowd of people, some holding or using smartphones, gathers at an event. A woman with pink hair and a man in a navy shirt focus on their devices, possibly reviewing the iPhone 11 Pro. Various people in the background appear engaged and interested. The atmosphere is busy and technologically driven.

The iPhone 11 Pro offers faster access to cellular networks according to a pre-release benchmark.

According to one report, the new model offers around 13% faster connections to the internet over 4G LTE compared with the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.

The news came just hours after the launch of the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max, with insiders able to offer a detailed look at cellular performance by monitoring specifications.

However, whilst specifications offer part of the picture, a speed test is required to confirm any improvements, and SpeedSmart has done exactly that, rounding up a report on the new iPhone 11 Pro.

The SpeedSmart app Twitter account shared its findings, comparing the connectivity of the iPhone 11 Pro against the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max on AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon in the US.

Of course, these early tests should be taken with some caution, as they may have been given a prerelease version of the iPhone that will never see the light of day, and perhaps even swapping out SIM cards on the same devices without taking into account traffic or coverage.

However, if these benchmarks are true, then a new modem is the most likely reason behind a speed increase.

Apple will next year switch to 5G modems, which will likely offer further improvements to 4G LTE connectivity, as 5G data rolls out around the world.

This small-scale experiment is good news for those thinking about ordering a new iPhone 11, but you should take it with a pinch of salt until the iPhone 11 Pro is officially released and real benchmark tests can be conducted.

Apple didn’t hint at any 4G LTE improvements during its iPhone event, but the new product page suggests that the iPhone 11 Pro supports up to 30 LTE bands and “Gigabit-class LTE,” and its corresponding press release confirms that the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max can connect at up to 1.6Gbps over LTE.
